A Single Remote Would Be Nice

remotesI have a nightly battle with our remote controls in the TV room. The kids think of them as toys, so they tend to get lost in the shuffle with their REAL toys. I invariably have to turn to Denis and ask, “Have you seen the volume remote?” (that seems to be the one that goes missing the most).

When we go out of town, I have to write notes for the house/dog sitter so they know how to work the entertainment system. We have six remotes.  If you look at that picture, from left to right we have the Blu-Ray remote, the sound remote, the VCR remote, the DVR/cable remote, the DVD remote and the TV remote.  For a while we had labels on them so our sitters would know which ones they want (I was horrified one night when we came home to find our babysitter sitting in the TV room doing nothing – she couldn’t figure out how to work the remotes so she turned everything off and just waited for us to get home, the poor thing).

I’d love to get rid of all the remotes and just have one. That’s why I’m entering a contest to win a Yamaha neoHD. It’s a device that allows you to have ONE remote with one user interface on your TV. No more hunting for the sound remote. Even better? The Yamaha remote only has about 15 buttons on it! FIFTEEN! To control the whole system!! Let me go get a towel to wipe up my drool. *lol*

So I know I’ll be submitting my Yamaha neoHD Sweepstakes Entry – what about you? I know my Dad needs to do it. He keeps written notes for the setup he has in my parent’s basement. It’s so complex that his system also requires that you turn OFF all the equipment in a certain order. Instead of freeing us, we’ve all become (willing) slaves to technology!!

There are a couple ways you can enter the contest. You can enter by Twittering: “I just entered to win a #neoHD b/c I have too many remotes, visit (http://urlbrief.com/e44caa) to enter” Another option is to open that link and comment on the thread on that site. Lastly, you can visit OhGizmo and ForeverGeek, read their reviews of the neoHD and leave a comment.

I’ll be following Yamaha on Facebook so that I know when the prize winner gets announced. If you enter the contest, you should consider following them on Facebook as well – I don’t know for sure that the winner will be announced there, but I’m sure they’ll have plenty of info on the neoHD!!

I take umbrage at your comment about the theater system. I have it set for ONE button to turn everything on or off in the proper sequence. The notes on the setup are for reestablishment of the wiring to let that ONE button work if I have to reconfigure it for any reason. Now I will admit that if you want to shift from the DVR to the DVD player it requires two remotes, but that is a limitation on the inputs of the DVR that has to be the master device and having a fancy control center won’t make that any easier. And I’ve been lazy about programming the DVD into the one master controller because we don’t watch that many DVDs on that set up.
