Okay, StumbleUpon.com – what took me so long to join you?
I found this fun 60-second typing test – Touch Type Test – which tests by CHARACTERS, not words. My only complaint is that it doesn’t tell you what your results are out of how many. For instance my results said:
You reached 392 points, so you achieved position 4331 on the ranking list
You type 511 characters per minute
You have 93 correct words and
you have 2 wrong words
But my position of 4,331 is out of ______________ total people? And what is the AVERAGE characters per minute that people do on the test? At least I can calculate that I did 95 words per minute (since I have 93 correct words and 2 incorrect words).
Either way, still very fun – so do the test and comment back to let me know your scores!
Update at 2:35 p.m.: Okay, so I came back and did it again just to see what difference I’d get a few hours later:
You reached 395 points, so you achieved position 4108 on the ranking list
You type 517 characters per minute
You have 99 correct words and
you have 2 wrong words
Higher ranking, 101 words, 2 wrong, six more characters.
I tried three times and the best I got was 85 WPM with no errors. You have impressive speed!!
Bev, I was a word processor for many years post-college and my entire workday was spent typing. When I type freeform (meaning off the top of my head) I can top 110 WPM when I’m in the zone. But 85 WPM is nothing to sneeze at either!!
Thanks, Jaynee. Most of my typing these days is email, composing as I go, so I was surprised to come up with 85!
