1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Egg nog, baby. LOVE IT.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa has wrapped 90% of his gifts, but will leave one or two under the tree unwrapped.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? We use exclusively white.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope.
5. When do you put your decorations up? Always the weekend after Thanksgiving. We usually host our White Elephant party the first weekend in December, thus the need to put them up right after T’giving.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? I like traditional English: Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child:Sometime in the mid-1970s (somewhere between 1st and 3rd grade since we living in Sterling, VA), driving around in my dad’s MG with my Uncle Jack on Christmas Eve. As a joke, he refused to take me home and I told him it was VERY IMPORTANT that I get home because Santa couldn’t come until I was asleep (this despite not believing in Santa by that point). It was the first time I called my uncle “Jack” instead of “Uncle Jack” because I was that determined that he take me home.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I honestly don’t remember, although my sister says she told me.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We used to open one gift on Christmas Eve but then eventually began opening all of them on Christmas Eve. However, with the arrival of CootieGirl and CootieBoy, we have moved all opening of gifts to Christmas Day.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? White lights, red beads, and about 1,000 ornaments.
11. Snow! Love it or dread it? Love it!!!
12. Can you ice skate? Yes, it’s surprisingly easy.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Getting Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album – mainly because my mom swore she would NEVER buy it for me. I screamed and ran 5-6 laps around the house due to the excitement when I saw it.
14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you? Remembering the birth of Jesus. Being with family.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Always pumpkin pie, but also my mother’s Chocolate-Eggnog Layer pie.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? I don’t think we have any true “traditions”.
17. What tops your tree? A lovely angel adorns the top.
18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? I won’t lie. I like both.
19. What is your favorite Christmas song? “No Eye Had Seen” from Michael W. Smith’s first Christmas album.
20. Candy canes: Blech.
21. Favorite Christmas movie? Elf ranks pretty high.
22. What do you leave for Santa? Last year we made cookies with CootieGirl and left him 2-3 along with a glass of milk.
“Thriller”? I bought you “Thriller”? What was I thinking…?
It was just after we moved to NoVA from CA, and you gave me six records that year, including “Thriller”. I can’t believe you don’t remember me running laps and screaming…
I remember that Jaynee was hysterical crying in her happiness over receiving Thriller that Christmas. Remember, that summer we moved back here MJ was the hottest thing and that album was IT.
Good going, Marmie. You ruined her forever for me. Thanks!
