Being a Mom

Last night I received an email from a reporter from one of our many local newspapers who asked if I would be interviewed about being my life as a mom. She had found Cootiehog and knew I lived in the Northern New Jersey area. After researching a bit online to find out if she really worked for the paper (you never know what freaks are out there), I agreed to do it and gave her my contact information.

I just got off the phone with her. We spoke for about 15-20 minutes about my life pre-Denis, pre-CootieGirl, and now with Denis and CootieGirl. Even talking to her it’s amazing how much my life has changed for the better now that I have them in my life.

Make no bones about it – I was a brat in my 20s. I was irresponsible, careless, selfish, shallow, not into family, hated church, had no money (I almost had my car repo’ed at one point), and refused to take blame for things that went wrong in my life, even though they were directly due to my actions. I was a complete waste of space.

Cut to 2004, and I’m a wife, a mother, I love my family, I do what needs to be done (for the most part – I’m still a bit lazy at times), adore my church family, and I’m not nearly as selfish as I used to be. I still have my moments, but my mom and sister will agree that I’ve grown up a lot in the past 10 years.

The article won’t go into all that – it’s just about moms and how their lives changed when they become moms. But I just want to say that I’m only the person I am today because I met Denis online in 1995 and gave birth to CootieGirl in 2003. If I didn’t have them, who knows where I’d be? Dead in a ditch somewhere, maybe?

A photographer for the paper comes by tonight to take pictures of CootieGirl and me, and possibly even tomorrow morning before I go to work (hello, gorgeous!). I have no idea when the article will come out, but it’ll be fun to actually have a tear-sheet for CootieGirl’s modeling scrapbook (hey, any picture in a public forum works for me).
