American Idol

Last night’s American Idol was interesting on many levels.

Interesting because Barry Manilow looks like Barbara Walters.
Interesting because no one sang “Copa Cabana”.
Interesting because only ONE person sang a fast-tempo song.
Interesting because I discovered that Diana DeGarmo looks like she could be Catherine Hicks’ daughter (I intended to post pictures to prove it, but for some reason I can’t upload to my server right now).
Interesting because George sang horribly for the second week in a row.
Interesting because Redheaded John didn’t mess up too badly but still made “Mandy” sound even more boring that it already is.

My picks for bottom three: Redheaded John, George (so sad about that), and Jasmine.
Who will go: Quite possibly George. But I hope not. It should be RH John.

I was shocked by the absence of Copa, too. But I was surprised that I agreed with the fawning judges that Manilow’s songs are great, generally speaking. They’ve held up well for 30+ years, imho.

And I agree with your assessment of the “talent.”

I agree that George wasn’t at his best but he’s gotta stay. I say the bottom three are John, Jasmine and Diana.

American Idol

By now, you know that the President’s speech pre-empted last night’s American Idol. I’m still trying to figure out which I would enjoy least. Listening to Bush speak (lie) or this year’s Idols’ sing. Tough call. I’m opening it up to a vote. Free free to babble.

As you know, I opted to watch a movie last night since American Idol wasn’t on. That’s my stance.

Well, I like Bush so I have to pick the Idols. But Bush wasn’t that exciting either. Yes, of course, I watched him.

American Idol

I haven’t talked about American Idol lately, so I thought I’d make my tenth and final post be about that. I just watched my tape of last night’s show – Big Band night. Tamyra started off the night right – great look, great sound, great song. She’s definitely in the top two for performers. Then my man Justin came on and sang “Route 66” – schmoozing like the Rat Pack. He did a great job as well. He started this competition so strongly but now he’s not as WOW as he was in the beginning. I put him 3rd for the night. The only other real standout for me was Kelli, the last singer. She rocked my world – she was SO good. Paula Abdul, normally a bit sycophantic for my taste, hit it right: Kelli is a triple threat. I was thinking the SAME thing when she was singing. She’d be brilliant on Broadway, fun to watch on TV/film, and is a natural live performer of all kinds of music. She could very well win this whole thing. She was definitely number one last night. As for the other three (Nikki, RJ and Christina) – they’ll slowly get picked off in the next couple weeks. I’m sad for Christina because – like Justin – she started out so great (her rendition of “At Last” still was her best moment on the show), but she just kind of faltered. But she’s drop dead gorgeous so I wouldn’t be surprised if she became a model of some sort if she doesn’t win.

And that’s my ten cents, my two cents is free.
