Today I am 47 years old. Â That does not pain me in the slightest to say that. Â I’m not one to get hung up on age – I’m a firm believer that your age does not define you. Â I didn’t freak out when I turned 30, and I didn’t freak out when I turned 40. Â I doubt I will freak out when I turn 50.
IÂ will freak out when I turn 67 because that means I can finally turn in my notice of retirement and spend the rest of my life relaxing Monday through Friday.
The past few days have been chock-full of activity. Â On Thursday night Denis and I went to go see Death Cab for Cutie in concert in Charlotte. Â He loves that band, and I like them well enough. Â A few years ago I dragged him to see Muse in concert (I love that band), so this was my likewise for him. Â It was a fun show for the most part. Â The opening acts were good (I loved Pure Bathing Culture even if their name is atrocious, and Chvrches also opened). Â DCFC sounded fabulous, but their light show was awful. Â I don’t know who designed their lighting, but their clear objective was to blind the audience or keep the band in the dark the whole time.
Then on Friday I flexed out since I had some OT earlier in the week, and the family took a drive to Raleigh to see Michael Carbonaro perform live. Â He is a magician who has a TV show on TruTV that is so fun to watch. Â His live show was just as good – he is a natural performer and was very charming. Â And a great magician to boot. Â CootieBoy and Denis sat up near the front, and CootieGirl and I sat near the back of the orchestra (there were no seats for all four of us together other than nosebleed, and you can’t see magic from nosebleed seats). Â The show was well-worth the long drive to and back from Raleigh.
On Saturday CootieBoy and I had TaeKwonDo and then after a few hours of chilling out (CG and I are in the middle of bingewatching all of the TV show “Chuck” on Netflix) we went to a local food truck rally for an hour or so. Â On Sunday (Father’s Day) I worked church and then we all hit up the movies to see “Finding Dory” which was really fun. Â Not as good as the original movie, but still really good. Â After that CG and I went shopping (I needed to replace a pair of pants that finally wore out), and then she asked if she could get her hair cut.
She had just gotten her hair cut a few weeks ago – she had about 4-5 inches taken off and long layers cut in.  But she decided she wanted it even shorter.  So I took her back in yesterday and now she has a short stack bob that only goes to her shoulders.  After dinner, Denis took her to the pool for a couple hours while I checked my work emails.
Speaking of work, my job has been crazy over the past few months, and while I can’t go into it right now, suffice to say that it’s all for good and I’m still really happy with how things are going at work, even if I’m crazy-busy. Â In fact, today I had to go into work at one of our other locations at 6:30 a.m. instead of my normal 7:30 a.m. Â I then headed into my office to do some of my Monday morning reporting before heading home to meet up with Denis for lunch and another movie (this time without the kids).
So yeah, I’ve been pretty much on the go since Thursday, but in the most fun way possible. Â I couldn’t think of a better way to usher in my 47th year on the planet.
