CootieGirl is Makin’ a Fuss (she told me to say that)

“I had a dream last night, I was eating a ten pound marshmallow. I woke up this morning and the pillow was gone.”So CootieGirl wants to be a YouTube star. Even though she is two years shy of their required age limit. She decided a few days ago that her claim to fame will be DIY (do it yourself) projects. This coming from a girl who HATES arts& crafts (she swears she LOVES arts & crafts, no wait “Okay, I LIKE arts & crafts.”).

This weekend we have been working on filming her inaugural video that shall not be posted to YouTube for at least 2 more years. Uh…she just found out that she won’t be able to upload it for 2 more years and she got REALLY upset (“I might as well not even be MAKING videos!” she wailed).

Here’s the thing. I don’t mind if she makes videos. More power to her if that’s what she wants to do for fun. However, the teen angst involved with making said video make it less than enjoyable for both of us.

I try to give advice.
She tries to ignore it.

I give her a helpful hint.
She throws a tantrum.

Rinse. Repeat.

All day.

She has recorded the same video at least six times today. We had a good practice run from a couple days ago, but she deleted it not realizing it was her best take. So today she has recorded several more times, using different camera heights, different locations, different zoom levels – and nothing has matched that first lightning we caught in the proverbial bottle the other day. Results? Much wailing and gnashing of teeth on CG’s part.

I’m about to review her latest effort in an attempt to edit and put something together. However, she tends to not like my suggestions despite the fact that I’ve made many a video for my job over the past few years with great success and appreciation. We’re talking quick cuts and music, people. We’re talking storyline and plot. And yet I’m apparently not able to edit (without the backseat driver) a video on how to stick toothpicks in marshmallows to create little white snowmen (or Adipose, depending on who you talk to).

So yeah, not a good day. Hopefully tonight once the kids go to bed, I can salvage part of the day by sitting on the sofa completely ignoring all thoughts of YouTube, marshmallows and the lack of good editing software on my otherwise delightful desktop computer.
