So it’s only recently that I became a fan of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, the HBO show from “Seinfeld” creator Larry David. When the show first came on I didn’t think it was near funny and thought it would be gone after one season.
I’m so glad it wasn’t. About six weeks ago there wasn’t much on tv so I flipped to HBO and saw it was on. I watched a few scenes and found myself laughing a couple times. Interesting. I tuned in the next week and laughed a few times again. But it was the third week – the episode when Larry picks up the hooker so he can drive in the commuter lane to get to the baseball game – that I was finally ensnared and became a fan. That was one of the funniest things I’ve seen on tv in a long time. Then this past week was another funny one – when Colby Donaldson from “Survivor” came to dinner and harrassed a Holocaust survivor about who suffered more. Only from the mind of Larry David can such humor exist, and it was CLASSIC Larry David. Snarkiness and absurdity at it’s best. And as my boss said, it was possibly the first sitcom that made a joke about 9/11 – and a funny one at that.
Shocking tv? You betcha. But ingeniously funny and refusing to be P.C. is refreshing too.
I told her it was funny, but would she believe me? No. Now? Yes. Glad you like the show, sweetie.
