The Best Thing in Some Time

Here’s the best bad Bush news I’ve read in a long time. This comes from Yahoo News:

Fox television news anchor Bill O’Reilly, usually an outspoken Bush supporter, said on Tuesday he was now skeptical about the Bush administration and apologized to viewers for supporting prewar claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

“I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this,” O’Reilly said in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.

Now even the conservatives are turning on him. All I’m saying is I wouldn’t take Bush and give the points if you’re thinking of betting on him for a November win in Vegas right now.

First, O’Reilly is more of a libertarian than a true conservative.

Second, it’s not Bush’s fault that the intelligence that was gathered for more than a decade was faulty. If you blame Bush then you have to also blame Clinton.

It’s an overall problem of human intel collecting – of which there’s very little thanks to the downsizing of human intel operations since the 1970s. Add the bluff and rebuff of Hussein and it was nearly impossible to know how accurate the info was that we had. But it wasn’t just the US that believed it – the UN signed off on 17 resolutions based on that intel.

Not Bush’s fault?!?! You’re correct. It’s the ignorant American public for voting him into office…wait, I take that back. Bush didn’t even win the popular vote in the election!

Perhaps it isn’t appropriate to blame the President for not getting accurate intel when he/his administration have made it public knowledge that Bush NEVER even reads the daily newspapers.*

Sorry for going on a rant. Today’s OpEd in USA Today alone is enough to make anyone distrust every public servant in all 3 branches of the government…partisan politics aside.

*P.S: If you want to know what I’m refering to re: Bush not reading the papers, etc. read the compelling and illuminating article by Ken Auletta in the 1.19.04 issue of the New Yorker.

Thanks for letting me give my two cents. The 1st Amendment rocks! 😉

Meredyth, I keep saying he’s not my president. He stole the election. If it wasn’t for his governor in Florida we’d all be a little safer right now. That’s okay, only 10 more months of Bush.
