I’m still really ticked off at the comments my mom and sister made about my desire to get my hair cut. As if women with short hair are somehow less feminine, as if I don’t know the difference between a bad short haircut and a a cute short haircut.
And I can talk until I’m blue in the face, but I just think it’s not getting through to them WHY I’m getting my hair cut off. So let me make it plain:
#1. I have a 9-month-old.
#2. I have a 9-month-old that loves to pull my hair every opportunity I have and it’s not a gentle tug it’s a PULL as in hair gets yanked out by the root.
#3. My SIL kept her hair short until her youngest was 5 years old. She now has beautiful long hair that she loves, but SHE AGREES THAT MOTHERS OF YOUNG TODDLERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HAVE SHORT HAIR WITHOUT GRIEF FROM OUTSIDERS.
#4. Short hair doesn’t make me less of a woman.
#5. Nor does it make me my husband’s “roommate” instead of his wife.
#6. Hair DOES grow back. My hair won’t be short forever. Just for the next 5-10 years.
#7. When I say “I’m getting my hair cut short” where in that sentence am I saying, “I’m getting a crew cut”?
I’ve had short hair before, and I believe it was quite stylish and a cute cut. It didn’t get “ugly” until I decided to grow it out. But for the year I had short short hair, it was damn cute, if I do say so myself.
And yes, I know I’m fat. And I know short hair doesn’t look best on fat women with double chins. But at this point I don’t care because I’d rather I actually HAVE hair than bald patches because CootieGirl yanks out my hair whenever she gets a chance.
So again, give me some credit, and also cut me some slack. You may not like me with short hair, but if you don’t like it, then keep the comments to yourself. Just because you’re family doesn’t mean you are free to volunteer EVERY opinion you have about me or my decisions.
