Baking: Cookie Dough Oreo Brownies

Yep, you read that title right.  Thanks to Pinterest.com, I have another recipe to share.  This one has been pinned by 100s of people at Pinterest, but it is courtesy of Amanda of  KevinandAmanda.com, a food blogger who makes fantastically ridiculous desserts and shares them with the world.

And so I attempted one of her creations today.  A chocolate chip cookie dough oreo stuffed brownie.  Oh yeah, people.  That’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!

I pretty much followed Amanda’s recipe, but I’ll show you the photos I took and put in my 2 cents.  First up: the pan.  She recommends lining your pan with wax paper and spraying the paper with cooking spray.  I did this.  And she’s right – the “loaf” of cookie/oreo/brownie will pop right out with the wax paper.

Then I made the cookie dough – just a regular cookie dough. Put that in the bottom of the pan and used a spatula to make it as even as I could.

Next up were the Oreos. I ran out of the regular Double Stuf Oreos, but we had a container of “blondie” Oreos, so I stuck one of those in the empty spot.

Next up was the brownie batter. I just used a regular brownie mix for this, and per Amanda’s note, I added a bit of Hershey’s syrup to the batter. I made the fudgier version of the batter (2 eggs instead of 3). I poured that over the Oreos and them used a clean spatula to spread out the batter over the Oreos.

Doesn’t that look like it’s going to be amazing? Look at the depth of chocolate/oreo goodness in that pan!

Amanda said the mixture should bake for 45-55 minutes on 350 degrees, but I ended up letting it go longer because my toothpick came out gooey at the 55 minute mark. I let it go another 5 minutes and then took it out.

The only bad thing about the baking process? THE SMELL of the waxpaper. Cootieboy came into the kitchen about 5 minutes into the bake time and asked if a candle was burning. Sure enough – the wax paper was smoking in the oven. It never caught on fire, but I definitely kept my eye on it just to make sure.

Once the pan was out of the oven, I let it sit for as long as I could possibly stand it, and then cut into it.

The brownie mix was definitely underdone – but that’s okay, because that’s how I like my brownies anyway – very mushy in the middle. The cookie dough was almost perfect.

Cootieboy came in for a taste test and declared them good. So do I.
