When It Rains, It Pours

So, we found out this morning that the toilet in our master bathroom has sprung a leak. So I’m on the hunt for a good plumber. It seems our 17-18 year old house has decided to call it quits on several items. Within the past year we’ve replaced the water heater and the roof. Add in the fact that our driveway sprung a big indentation when the roofers were here, and that’s a lot of money going out the door. Blerg.

Last week was a crazy week. We had stuff going from Wednesday to Sunday. On Wednesday Denis and I went to see “Celebrity Autobiography” in Charlotte. The theater was only 20% full but the show was fun. Basically, actors just got on stage and read excerpts from famous people’s autobiographies. We got to listen to thoughts from Mr. T, Ivana Trump, Loni Anderson & Burt Reynolds, Neil Sedaka, Britney Spears as well as the trio of Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher. Hilarious.

On Thursday we took the kids to see Ringling Bros Circus again. We went last year and had great seats. This year – not so much. I opted for the cheap seats which was a big mistake. There were a couple different acts that we couldn’t see because the lighting setup blocked our view. Add in the fact that we weren’t impressed with the theme/storyline of the show and it ended with us being slightly bored and not paying attention at certain points. Oh well.

On Friday night we took the kids to see “How I Became a Pirate” at ImaginOn. It was a fun little play and a short night out – which was good, since the next morning we had to be up and out of the house by 8 a.m.

That’s because on Saturday we drove to Atlanta for the weekend. It was a quick overnight trip, but fun. We visited the Georgia Aquarium, which is considered the largest aquarium in the world. It IS quite large, but I hated the layout. They should have taken a lesson from Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC on how to lay out a tourist attraction. But the exhibits were cool – we had fun watching the sea otters, the penguins and the HUGE fish tanks.

We also went to the Coke Museum, which is right next door. I don’t drink carbonated drinks of any kind, but it was still a fun little museum. The last room you visit has machines that dispense 106 different varieties of Coke products from around the world. My favorite was Bibo from South Africa – it was a type of fruit punch and absolutely delicious. I also tried a few flavors of Fanta, which, despite the carbonation, were quite tasty.

We stayed at an Embassy Suites that allowed us to bring Cooper the Dog. It was a nice hotel (it is NOT listed on the Bedbug Registry) – until we found a water roach in the bathroom on Sunday morning. Denis went to kill it only to have it scamper away. When I went in an hour later to take a shower I found an even BIGGER one, which we did manage to kill. Upon checkout I told the lady behind the desk that I once lived in NYC and I STILL think those roaches were large. She seemed grossed out, which she should have been.

The kids enjoyed the trip. We went to The Varsity which undoubtedly had the best onion rings I’ve ever had in my life. They were simply incredible. Their chocolate milkshake was pretty decent too. CootieGirl had their famous Frosted Orange drink and thoroughly enjoyed it. We also went to Fox Bros BBQ, which was just okay. My pulled pork was very stringy and flavorless, and the onion rings were amateur compared to The Varsity’s.

While there the highlight was getting to see one of my co-workers from my job. She moved back in August and she has been deeply missed by everyone in our department. But it sounds like she’s doing really well, is enjoying being the boss (even if it is a 24/7 type of job), and that her kids love their new town. Add in the fact that her rental house is really cute and her dog is precious, and life seems good for her, which makes me happy.

Upon arriving home on Sunday night, I was happy to review my upcoming calendar and find that other than CootieBoy’s piano lesson on Wednesday, we have NOTHING going on this week. Other than fixing our master bathroom toilet.
