Well, this morning didn't go as planned.
Â
I had visions of happy kids chomping at the bit, staring excitedly out the screen door, waiting for the bus to lumber up the street, it's black, billious exhaust fumes filling the air as we snapped pictures of our 1st and 2nd grader going off to their first day.
Â
Instead, I got one happy kid (CG) and one nervous kid (CB) quickly throwing on their shoes and racing out the door to meet the 10-minutes-early school bus. No camera was in sight to catch the chaos, thankfully.
Â
Add to that, I neglected to put the school workbook CB received on Monday in his backpack, so he went off to school today with plenty of school supplies, but no workbook. *sigh*
Â
Fortunately the first 7 minutes of the morning were good. At 5:53 a.m. CB crawled into bed next to me, told me he loved me, and when I told him HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY he gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and then nestled in to catch a few more z's before the alarm clock went off at 6 a.m.
Â
I emailed CB's teacher to apologize for not having it together this morning. We DID remember to pack the cookies we made for CB's birthday celebration in his backpack, so he's got that going for him today. When he comes home tonight we'll have dinner and cupcakes for his birthday, then let him open gifts. His "big" gift this year is that we're letting him join Cub Scouts in a few weeks. When he went to Camp Marmie at my parents' house a couple weeks ago, they indoctrinated him with Scouting propaganda (I kid), and he came home wanting to join. So we'll be attending a "school night" function in a couple weeks with CB to make sure he wants to join, and then will get him geared up if he confirms his desire to participate.
