Shaking Things Up

Two work items to report.

1) I do not get July 5 off as a holiday at work. I was surprised by this, but I guess when you work for a company that is open 365 days a year, they don’t consider the day AFTER a true holiday to be a holiday at all (which is why I worked the day after Thanksgiving last year). And so I’ll be working on July 5 while 90% of people are sleeping in and enjoying an additional day at home.

2) I’m wearing a skirt today. That may not sound like a big deal, but it is. I can probably count the number of times in the past 10 years I’ve worn a skirt. It’s almost definitely less than 10 times. Two were for job interviews. And two were because I was a bridesmaid in a wedding. One was to a wedding we attended in May, and one was to church a couple weeks ago because I had to do laundry and literally had NOTHING ELSE that I could wear. That’s six right there, and I honestly can’t think of any other times I would have worn a skirt. It just doesn’t happen – I don’t wear skirts. But this morning I decided to wear a skirt. It’s going to be in the 90s all week, with extremely high humidity, and I thought, “This is good skirt weather, if I wore skirts,” and then I thought, “Well Jane, you do OWN a good summer skirt – why don’t you WEAR it?”

So I am. I predict a large portion of my co-workers will comment on the fact I’m wearing a skirt. I may have only been there for seven months thus far, but even they know by now that I’m not a skirt person.
