Heading to the Dentist

Just over a year ago I had two root canals. The endodontist put temporary fillings in those teeth and told me to go see a dentist to have crowns put on. Since crowns are super-expensive (even with insurance), I opted to stick with the temporary fillings.

This past November (or was it early December?) I broke one of those teeth at work while innocently eating a Chick-Fil-A hash brown. Fortunately, there is no pain at all, so I have patiently waited for 2010 to arrive so that my insurance would kick in. In the meantime, my co-admin, who has a 20-year history with her dentist, called her guy and they got me an appointment for today, rather than having to wait until April (their “new patient” slots are all booked).

So in a bit I’ll head into Charlotte and hit up the dentist’s office so they can repair my tooth. I’ll most likely need that crown that I didn’t want to pay for in the first place, and I fear they’ll see the OTHER non-crowned tooth and tell me that should get done as well (to which I’ll say, “no thanks!”).

Ahh, teeth. Can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em. Well, you CAN, but then you get into the whole Poligrip and dentures thing, and I’m not ready for that yet.

You may be headed for poligrip if you don’t get the crowns you need. Marmie has spoken. 🙂

My dentist assured me today that my teeth were in good shape and that I didn’t need crowns. He put porcelain fillings in, repairing the broken tooth AND replacing the temporary filling on the OTHER tooth!
