A New Year, A New Workout

One of the gifts I got for Christmas was EA Sports Active for the Wii. I had originally hoped to become a runner, but the 5K I did on Halloween morning ripped up my left knee, which has yet to really recover. Sometimes even just walking around at work I feel a twinge in that knee, as though it’s going to give out on me.

So this afternoon after we got home from church, CootieBoy and I turned on the game for the first time and created our profiles (yes, my children insist on having their own profiles whenever the option is available). I then opted to start the 30-day challenge and proceeded to do squats, leg lifts, running, mild resistance training and a bit of boxing. I had a slight sweat going after my 30 minutes was done, and the muscles in my thighs were protesting a bit. So I know I got a decent workout, despite my son jumping around and bumping into me while he attempted to do the same things I was doing.

Then Denis and CootieGirl got home and I let her do a quick 20 minute workout, followed by CootieBoy. CB is a genius – during the running portions he actually ran around the house, rather than in place. We didn’t think the Wii console would still register him as he went tearing into the dining room, through the living room, into the foyer, and back through the kitchen to the TV room. But it did continue to register his movement, so he did it again. Pretty funny, and something I might do myself if I’m ever working out when the house is empty save for me. *lol*

I’m not looking to go crazy with the exercise since my knee is wonky, but my company offers a discount on next year’s health insurance if you can prove you do certain things throughout the year. You can earn $200, $400 or $600. I already know I can qualify for the $200, but if I exercise 3x a week and keep a journal, it’s one more step towards earning a $400 discount for 2011 – if not the full $600.

I just started the 30 day challenge yesterday, and boy are my quads sore today! I’ll keep checking on you to see how you’re doing!

Thanks, Cindy! It was pretty fun today, and I like how it looks as though it’ll be adding new exercises and toughness as the days continue – that was one thing I didn’t particularly enjoy about Wii Fit – with Wii Fit it was the same thing over and over again, which no increase in difficulty.
