Catching Up

1. So I was right about who got booted on SYTYCD (Paris and Tony). I’m looking forward to this week’s dancing. More Wade Robson, please!

2. My freelance project is going FANTASTICALLY. I used our new printer to scan some pages and they scanned in perfectly. Back in the day a scanner would miss about 10% of the language and really make a mess of it (remind me to tell you the Stuttgart=Smuttart story sometime). Anyway, the scan went swmmingly and I saved myself 2-3 hours of straight typing. I’m about a week ahead of schedule thus far!

3. Speaking of swimming – the kids are doing great. CootieGirl is now on her way to doing handstands in the pool, and CootieBoy is comfortable jumping in the pool without holding someone’s hand. He still hates going underwater, but I’ve told him if he wants to continue coming to the pool, he HAS to become comfortable being submerged from time to time so that he knows how to come up. Our tans are coming along nicely. The kids have a healthy glow (I’ve told CG the importance of NOT going overboard on getting tan but that sun in moderation is healthy).

4. Today we’re heading out to a Scottish festival in Clover and then getting ready for a visit from Ted/Anne this evening.

5. Two movies of note: “Bedtime Stories,” which I LOVED. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” was a bit slow, but I stuck with it and cried like a baby (no pun intended) at the end.

    Hi Jaynee,
I have been a reader for a while and used to have a blog (eleanorslookingglass.com) that had linked to your daughters site, they are around the same age. I was wondering if you could give me some advice or tell me how you found all of your freelancing jobs. I have a job working at night as a graphic artist, but have been looking for something that I can do from home during the day, especially when my daughter starts first grade in September. I enjoy typing and have lots of computer experience with Word and Design programs. I have been trying to research work-from-home jobs, but they all seem like scams…any advice or help would be really appreciated! Thanks! Cathy

Hi Catherine! I remember you!! For my freelancing, I got my start on Elance.com, which is a great website. They offer free accounts with which you can submit to 1-3 jobs per month, or a paid account (about $10 a month) that will allow you to submit to 10-20 jobs a month. I have the paid account and it has made all the difference. Getting the first gig can be tough (it took me a full month of regular bidding and losing before I finally got picked for one), but I found that once I got the first one done and got positive feedback, I began to get some requests for service and have had pretty steady work since February. Email me at cootiehog [at] gmail [dot] com and I can provide some additional insight on Elance for you.
