I LOVE LOVE LOVE Adam Lambert’s recorded version of “Ring of Fire” that is available on iTunes.
I can’t believe I just wrote that.
But it’s true.
His performance on American Idol was over the top (typical Lambert), but his recorded version on iTunes? He is practically CHANNELING Jeff Buckley (of whom I am a huge fan). His tone in the recorded version is delicious and much less skeevy than his live performance. I’m telling you – if he sang on the SHOW like he does in this recording? I’d be his absolute number one fag hag. I’m not kidding. The problem is that his showmanship can sometimes ruin his singing, which is outstanding according to this track.
I really liked his initial audition, when he played it low-key. But since then he’s been Mr. Showman, which I can’t stand.
But again, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE his recorded “Ring of Fire.” Almost as much as the Ricky Braddy “Love Me Like LA” which is available to listen to on Facebook. Almost as much as that.
Oh, and props to Kris Allen, Anoop Desai and Matt Giraud on their recorded versions of their songs as well. Kris’ contemplative cover of “To Make You Feel My Love” is wonderful, and Anoop’s recording of “Always On My Mind” is fantastic. And Matt Giraud? Wow – his version of “So Small” should be on the radio RIGHT NOW. Wonderful production value on his track – it truly sounds radio-ready to me.
If you don’t download the AI songs from iTunes, you are really missing out. Once they get to the Top 12 they record really professional versions of the songs they sing on the show. I started downloading David Cook’s songs last year and they never disappointed. Something tells me this year will continue to be good. Especially if it results in me actually LIKING Adam Lambert (which I’m sure won’t last, but we’ll see).
I think Matt Giraud is my favorite this season.
