The pumpkin patch was a success on Saturday. We were there a couple hours and the kids got to enjoy a pony ride, a hay ride, a corn maze and rows and rows of pumpkins still on the vine. In the end we brought home six pumpkins – three big ones, two small ones and one teeny tiny one the size of a peach. We also brought home two lovely sunflowers that came free with the cost of the pony rides.
Upon arriving home the kids painted their pumpkins. Yesterday was pumpkin day – Denis made pumpkin bread, and I made a homemade pumpkin pie. Because we were worried about the flavor of the pumpkin pie since we didn’t by sugar pumpkins, we used 1/2 a can of pumpkin and 1/2 the pumpkin we brought home. I had thought about taking it to my small group women’s night in event tonight, but when it came out of the oven it looked like it wasn’t quite setting up properly. So I waited about an hour and cut into it and sure enough – it’s a HEAVENLY pie. The crust was a bit overdone, but the pie itself was delightful. Less creamy than a typical Libby’s pie, but still just as tasty.
I also made some pumpkin scones albeit not with the pumpkins we brought home, but with my mom’s pumpkin scone mix that she sells through her business. They smelled heavenly when they came out of the oven. I made them a bit large, so I only got 7 scones from the mix – but only because I couldn’t find a smaller cookie cutter. I easily could have gotten a dozen if I made them in more normal portions. However, only four ladies will be there tonight, plus we’ll have other treats there, so I’m okay with only having seven scones (even moreso since I won’t eat one myself).
Our entire house smelled of pumpkin all day long yesterday. Tis the season!!!

No devon cream tonight – just the scones, some raspberry jam and some apple butter. Better than nothing.
