Movie: Vantage Point

vantage pointSo instead of the debate last night, I watched “Vantage Point,” starring such notables as Dennis Quaid, Sigourney Weaver, Matthew Fox, William Hurt, and Forest Whitaker. This taut thriller tells the story of the President of the United States (William Hurt) being assassinated while visiting Spain for an anti-terrorism conference. The first fifteen minutes of the movie show the event unfold. From then on you see the exact same story told from different points of view. Much like “Memento” played with time, so does “Vantage Point” – and quite effectively. Despite knowing ‘how it ends’ (i.e., the POTUS getting shot) I still found myself getting more and more involved in the story as the movie continued. I really enjoyed it tremendously and despite some corniness with the Forest Whitaker character, I found it quite fun to watch.
