TV Shows

Thought I’d make a list (in no particular order) of TV shows I’ve loved throughout the ages. Good, bad, indifferent. Watched ’em. Some cancelled WAY before their time. Some hung on way too long.

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (thriller) – best show on TV (had a few misses here and there (hello, Beer Bad! I mean you!) but was a great show
  • Angel (thriller) – another Joss Whedon show – also had misfires (hello entire Connor storyline!) but the puppet episode more than made up for it
  • Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (comedy) – *sigh* Best thing to come out of PLCL: Kubiak
  • Sifl and Olly (puppets) – this was a show on MTV that I LOVED.
  • Veronica Mars (drama) – cut off after two seasons. Too bad – it could have been great.
  • Seinfeld (comedy) – a modern day classic that remains VERY quotable in our household.
  • NewsRadio (comedy) – the only time Andy Dick was funny, and Phil Hartman at his best.
  • WKRP in Cincinnati (comedy) – I had a crush on Gary Sandy when I was a kid. And I still mispronounce Chi Chi Rodriguez to this day thanks to Les Nessman.
  • That 70s Show (comedy) – GREAT show that changed Fez so much he wasn’t funny anymore.
  • Northern Exposure (dramedy) – aw, cute show!
  • Twin Peaks (mystery) – I hated the movie, but the TV show was so weird it was enthralling.
  • Freaks and Geeks (dramedy) – This show should have lasted more than one season. Considering the talent that Paul Feig and team discovered in this cast, it was a brilliant show. Do yourself a favor and rent the DVDs – you won’t regret it. “Beers Steers and Weirs” is my favorite episode.
  • Mystery Science Threater 3000 (comedy) – comedy gold when Joel Hodgson was the host.
  • Little House on the Prairie (drama) – who DIDN’T love this show? Jumped the Shark when the sister went blind, though.
  • Quantum Leap (drama) – oh boy! I still have the series finale on videotape somewhere in my house.
  • Square Pegs (comedy) – am I the only one that watched this faithfully until it was off the air? That was only a short time, but I was faithful.
  • Kids in the Hall (sketch comedy) – ERADICATOR!!!
  • The Young Ones (comedy) – another MTV show out of Britain, featuring a punk band that included a hippie for some strange reason. Quirky show.
  • Perfect Strangers (comedy) – my favorite quote “I’m basking in your glory.” That line made me squirt milk out my nose.
  • Wings (comedy) – Tim Daly is hot.
  • My So-Called Life (drama) – the precursor to “Freaks and Geeks” angst. Too bad Jared Leto turned out to be such a freak in real life.
  • Millennium (sci-fi) – did ANYONE watch this but me? Starred Lance Henriksen (the droid in the “Alien” movies). I didn’t miss an episode.
  • In Living Color (sketch comedy) – I remember many Sunday nights watching this in my college dorm lobby while eating cookie dough.
  • Herman’s Head (comedy) – I’m somewhat ashamed to admit I watched this early Fox Network catastrophe
  • The Carol Burnett Show (sketch comedy) – one of the best sketch comedy shows of all times.
  • Emergency! (drama) – I still remember squirming while watching the episode when the dude helped a woman get her hand unstuck from the garbage disposal. I’ve lived in fear of that happening to me since then.
  • Benson (comedy) – good old Benson.
  • CHips (drama) – I always laughed at the closing credits when they’d do the freeze frame closing credits when everyone on screen laughed at some stupid joke.
  • The Bionic Woman (drama) – remember when Lindsey was brainwashed while getting her hair washed? Heh.
  • Fantasy Island (drama) – I really wish the remake of this had been as good as the original.
  • Hart to Hart (drama) – remember their sidekick Max? Remember how we had to imagine that Robert Wagner and Jennifer whats-her-name really had chemistry only they didn’t?
  • Alias (action) – I was hooked from the first episode. Suddenly contracted my own amnesia once she and Vaughn kissed and refused to watch the rest so it wouldn’t be ruined.
  • The 4400 (sci-fi) – this was a show on USA network that was AWESOME and was sadly cancelled this season. So we have no idea how it all ends….BUMMER
  • Did I miss any old shows? I’m sure I did – what about you?

What was I watching during the same time period? St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues, Perry Mason, and Carol Burnett. You can tell when I was finally able to sit down and watch something ~ during the 10:00-11:00 hour. On the days I was able to sit down and watch during the “family hour” it was for “Mork and Mindy” and “Happy Days.” Those were good times. And then there were the Saturday pizza nights when all four of us watched MST 3000. Those were awesome times!

What I miss most is anything with Pat Summerall doing the announcing.

      Jaynee —

I watched Millennium too and loved it. I was sad when they took it off the air. I’ll add one of my all time favorites — Starsky & Hutch.
