Wish I Could Have a Spy Camera

We recently put in a new garage door opener that includes an electronic keypad outside our house. It requires a code to be entered in order to lift the door. Denis came home from work today and found the cover to the keypad was up. He called to see if I had used it and forgot to lower it. I said no, and that perhaps the mailman looked at it while he was dropping off a box from Amazon at our doorstep. Later Denis went to get the kids from daycare and upon arriving home found it was up again.

So it wasn’t the mailman. I wish I could set up a sting operation and hide out somewhere to see who is doing it. If it’s just some kids playing around, that’s fine. But if someone is actively casing our house, I want to know about it and do something about it.

Obviously we’ll be updating the code tonight and making it twice as long (we can have a code as long as ten digits) so it’s that much harder to crack. If a person can crack an 8-10 digit code, then they get my respect and can have whatever junk they want out of our garage (except my chocolate babka from Zabar’s that I got yesterday from a co-worker who went to NYC this past weekend).

We’ll also be adding deadbolt locks to all three of our doors – front, back and garage. Better safe than sorry.

And note to self: practice turning on and off the security system and start USING it again.
