Today I sent off another tithe to a church I’m supporting in Hoboken, NJ. I’ve now given 60% of my annual commitment to give a full 10%-of-all-income tithe in 2008. That’s very exciting to me.
In other news, I also scheduled my last payment to my Discover Card. As of next Thursday it will be officially paid off. Zero balance. When that gets processed it will mean I have two credit cards with zero balances and one more to pay off. I’m hoping to become super-aggressive in making payments beginning in August. I must admit I have used my credit card in the past month or two to buy some local event tickets – but only because PayPal was not an option. I bought my American Idol ticket, our David Sedaris tickets, and our Avenue Q tickets using the credit card. Now that I’m “stocked up” on entertainment (that is, until the SYTYCD tix go on sale in a few weeks), I can concentrate on paying off the card in full. If I’m as aggressive as I WANT to be, I quite possibly could have it paid off by the time CootieBoy starts first grade. This is especially true if I go back to having all paid posts go towards debt, as well as any cash bonuses I might receive through online referrals, Amazon Associates, paid surveys and (most importantly) bonuses at work and any pay raises I get. Also, once my car gets paid off (I think the last payment due is July 2009) I can put that money towards the balance and pay it off even sooner.
And all while doing this I hope to put a few bucks away each month to save for things – like our trip to NYC in November, the corneal molds I want so I don’t have to wear glasses EVER AGAIN FOR LIFE, the eventual tummy tuck surgery to get rid of the excessive baby belly (that will only get worse as I continue to lose weight over the next nine months).
But for today, a feeling of accomplishment.
Color me jealous. If I’m lucky, I’ll have my credit card debt paid off by the time I’m 100.
Julies last blog post..Thursday Thirteen: Song Lyrics That Make Me Piss Myself Laughing
Julie, don’t feel so bad. The only reason we are able to get down our debt this fast is because of a large insurance payout.
Julie, Denis is right. We switched from whole to term life insurance and got a major refund back on the premiums. We used some of it to pay off 90% of one of my Discover card. So it’s not as if I paid it off “on my own” like I will this last card I have to deal with.
