Planning The Rest of My Vacation Time

Today I calculated all the vacation time I’ve taken thus far in 2008 in order to figure out what I’ll be doing the rest of the year.

So far it looks like I can take a day off in June (my birthday), a day off in July (in addition to the July 4 holiday), a day in August (most likely CB’s birthday which falls on a Monday), a day in September (in addition to Labor Day), and a day in October. Then in November I’ve just emailed Denis to see if he’d be interested in going to NYC for an entire week. By October I’d be left with 5 1/2 days of vacation time left, and we could take the Monday – Wednesday of T’giving week and spend 6 full days in NYC with four days dedicated to driving from SC to VA to NYC and back again. I’d STILL have 2 1/2 days left which could be used for miscellaneous sick days if they come up, or even have them get paid out in December or moved into 2009.

My mom had originally asked us to come to VA again for Christmas this year, but that was when she was thinking it would be the last Christmas they celebrate in Virginia. Since they are now not planning on moving anytime soon, there is no reason to go to Virginia for that holiday, so we’ll enjoy a nice quiet Christmas here in South Carolina since we are most likely going to NoNJ/NYC for Thanksgiving.

I looked into the timeshare thing for T’giving and I found one that is only about an hour from where we used to live in NoNJ – about 90 minutes from his mother’s place in Queens. The logistics of it might be difficult (what if Denis wants to hang in NYC with his friends one night but I want to stay at the timeshare with the kids – how does he get back to the timeshare? Does he spend the night at a buddy’s place and meet up with me the following day?). And obviously we’d have to do something with Cooper The Dog while we’re gone – whether it’s put him up at a kennel, get a housesitter and beg my parents to watch him while we’re in NYC.

But that can be taken care of at a later date.

I think it’s OK for you to stay in SC for Christmas–you should start your own Christmas traditions– but you still have to come up to NoVa at least twice a year.

Where is the time share located? The Have the NJ Transit that runs all over the place, so I don’t think Denis will have to worry about getting back.

Ace – what’s crazy is that the timeshare is only 1 1/2 hours from Bloomfield, but it’s 1 hour from you guys! The drive to Bloomfield is a straight shot mostly on highway, thus the quick trip. The drive to YOUR PLACE is almost as long because it is NOT on the highway at all. The timeshare is in Shawnee-on-Hudson or something like that. Shawnee-on-something, in PA.

I agree with Uncle Bill but don’t take Christmas in Virginia off the table quite yet. Lots can happen in the next few months.

Mom, hate to break it to you, but Christmas in VA is already off the table. We came to VA for Christmas last time, and we feel strongly about only traveling for ONE HOLIDAY this year. And since we have yet to see Denis’ family since we moved in July 2006, we’re putting the focus on THAT side of the family this year. I’m sure you understand.

WOW… we live off of two major Highways…. Rt. 84 is only 20 min north and Rt. 80 is only 15 min. South…. not to mention you take Highway 15 to get to both… and we are only 5 min from Rt. 15. I will research it.. We are only 30 minutes from the Delaware Water Gap. and 45 from the Poconos.

LOL… Hudson River not so much in PA. Now Shawnee on the Delaware… now that is in PA. LOL

Ok.. just looked it up. Shawnee on the Delaware is just North of the Delaware Water gap… so I would say about 45 minutes to our place… you would ignore the Google directions and go to Rt. 206N. We are about 5 miuntes from 206. Anthony and I were just in Allamuchy State Park Memorial Day. Of course we drove there for Waterloo Village only to find out after the fact (so much for internet research before our drive) that is shut down last summer. 🙁 Anyway, if you stay there you are totally within driving distance.. cause Anthony and I hit the Outlet Malls in Stroudsburg all the time. Nice pretty ride too! Ok, that is all for this post, I promise!
