Answer Today’s Friday Five Questions for December 20

Please join in and comment with your answers below! The Friday Five for December 20, 2019:

  1. Do you buy any weekly/monthly magazines?
  2. Have you ever made your own Ice cream?
  3. Have you ever baked your own bread?
  4. Do you collect anything?
  5. Has anyone ever approached you thinking you were someone else?

As for me:

  1. Do you buy any weekly/monthly magazines? I don’t buy any, but earlier this year Denis decided to accept the offer to receive a bunch of free magazines.  Since then, our house has been inundated with People, Entertainment, InStyle, Better Homes & Gardens, and New Yorker magazines.  At some point they arrived so often that I had a stack of 20-30 magazines that I needed to read.  I’m just not a magazine reader.  When CG and I housesat for a weekend back in the summer I took 6-8 of them with me and spent an entire afternoon plowing through them.  Once these free subscriptions run out, I’m hopeful that we will go back to being a non-magazine house.
  2. Have you ever made your own Ice cream? We have made ice cream multiple times.  Growing up we’d make it on special occasions, and then once Denis and I got married we had a small ice cream maker that we’d use once in a blue moon.  We now have a soft-serve ice cream maker and we dust it off a couple times a year to make soft-serve for the kids.
  3. Have you ever baked your own bread? I own a breadmaker that hasn’t seen daylight in years.  Denis will occasionally make pumpkin bread, or banana bread.  But as for real sandwich-ready bread, I’ve only ever failed in my attempts.
  4. Do you collect anything? Over the years I’ve collected lots of things.  For a while I collected snow globes.  Since I graduated college I’ve collected Fiestaware although I stopped buying vintage about ten years ago since I have no place to display it (my current collection is boxed up in the attic).  I also collected Funko! pops (CG does too).  You could make the argument that I collect movies, since I have such a large collection at this point.
  5. Has anyone ever approached you thinking you were someone else? I don’t recall this ever happening to me, but the reverse has happened – about 20 years ago I met someone who had constantly been confused for being ME.  Soon after I got married and moved to NYC to be with Denis, my club/rave pals started to tell me that they kept seeing someone in the scene that looked just like me.  Then a couple years later I met someone online that was from that area, and the more we talked, she came to realize that I was the woman that she kept being mistaken for a couple years prior!  At the time I didn’t think we looked much alike, but we had the same haircut/color, and about the same build, so I could see how people would see her from behind or the side and automatically think she was me.  I also think (and this may be a false memory) that she actually ended up dating a guy I had dated for a while before I met Denis.
