I hate stay at home moms. You know why? Because they get all the discounted stuff during triple coupon days and leave working mothers with nothing on the shelves to buy when they get there at night. So I didn’t get cereal, or peanut butter, or dishwashing liquid, or granola bars, or a few other things that I would have liked to stock up on.
Having said that, I did okay nonetheless. I wasn’t able to necessarily stockpile (although I did stockpile bath soap – we have about 25 bars in the house now), but I did use a lot of coupons last night and this morning (yes, I went twice in 24 hours. I was hoping all the empty shelves would be restocked this morning – some were, but the items I mentioned above were still empty this morning). All total, I got $120 of groceries for $62, saving 49% – which tracks with what I normally save when I do the grocery game.
And my shopping isn’t over yet, although I won’t be getting triple coupons. I still have to buy my frozen lunches for the next couple of weeks and one store is doing 10/$10 this week so I can buy a lot. Next time Harris Teeter has triple coupon days I’m going to go ahead and do it in Charlotte. The groceries are priced at least 5-10 cents higher there, but I can go on my lunch hour when all the stay at home Charlotte moms are invading the shelves. Maybe I’ll have a better chance there next quarter.
hehe I guess if you work 10-7 you can stop by in the mornings now! 😉
jen’s last blog post..No, I did not tell you you could use that cup.
HA! Good point! Although I’m going to be 9:30 – 6:30, not 10-7. But with stores opening at 7 a.m. it’s still within the realm of possibility!!
Perhaps you were speaking in jest but beware of whom you criticize…stay-at-home moms are much to be admired and hold privileged positions to which many would, and should, aspire.
Marmie – obviously I was joking about stay at home moms. I’d love to be one myself.
Hey, Jaynee…with all your new skills in squeezing the most out of every dollar and your ability to make money with home businesses, YOU’D be a great candidate for the SAHM! And then you could take advantage of all those triple-coupons that we’re stealing from you 🙂
Now that I’m a SAHM I’m too frazzled to sit & do coupons! I used to do that kind of stuff during down time at work. (That also included cleaning out my purse – which is a disaster!)
