Okay, Then, How About 9:30 to 6:30?

So yesterday as I was leaving work I joked with Mr. BIL and said, “Are you SURE you don’t want me to change my hours to 10 to 7?” He laughed. But then moments later he said, “Hey, are you serious? You want to do that?”

I told him that it made more sense for several reasons:

  • he rarely has “rush” items in the morning
  • he always gets busy around 5 p.m. and tries to get it all done in an hour and generally CAN’T
  • it would mean the company pays me less OT pay
  • my commuting time would reduce by at least 40% each way
  • in the event he DID had a morning rush job, I’d just come in early – which would still be less OT than they pay me now
  • But then there are some negatives:

  • Once the pool opens – wouldn’t get to go (it closes at 8 p.m.)
  • Once time changes in the fall, I’d get very little night time with the kids since they’ll start going to bed at 8 p.m.
  • Church band practice STARTS at 7 p.m. That’s all well and good if we practice in Charlotte, but when we practice in Fort Mill I’d be 30 minutes late
  • Less OT pay for me
  • When I got in this morning, Mr. BIL had already talked to HR and basically got approval for me to work 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Which is awesome. But I told him that perhaps 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. would be better.

  • My commute time would still be shorter than it is now
  • I’d still get OT occasionally since I sometimes stay past 7 p.m.
  • Kids would still get an hour a night at the pool since we’d get there by 7 p.m.
  • I’d make it to band practice on time if I didn’t go home first
  • So, I don’t know when it will go into effect, but at some point in the near future my hours will officially become 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. I’m VERY excited.

    Woo hoo!!!
