Mistakes

I try not to make big mistakes at my job. I try to be diligent about getting things right. Sure, a typo may get through now and again (including one this morning that I was able to nip in the bud before outside counsel could see it).

However, today I found out that a FedEx package I sent last night containing a Civil Summons (meaning it’s a document advising him he’s being sued) was left at the guy’s door instead of the driver getting a signature. This despite the fact that there were FedEx stickers on BOTH sides of the envelope stating “Signature Required from Named Recipient(s) Only”. Apparently the airbill supercedes such labels, and since I left the delivery options blank on the airbill label, they defaulted to the “no signature required” option. I called FedEx to complain and the woman claimed that they had no such stickers as the one I described. Uh, then why is a big FedEx logo on the bottom of the label? Anyway, I quickly called Mr. BIL (who was out of the office most of the day) and explained what had happened, and while I had been flogging myself at my desk over my mistake, he was okay about it and said he’d try and serve the guy using a local process server later in the week. He also said, “The good news is that this won’t happen again.”

You got that right. My heart can’t take the pressure of getting something like that wrong.

You should have asked the woman for her Fed Ex Account number and send her an overnigt with the stickers all over it.
