Not many people know this, but at one time I aspired to be an event planner. It just seemed like a natural fit – I love to plan things, mapping out every little detail I can think of. I remember seeing an ad in the paper for an event planner when I lived in the Washington, D.C. area. I contemplated sending in my resume, but opted not to since (1) I had recently been fired from a job, (2) I was having too much fun being a raver to be nailed down by a full-time job, and (3) temping gave me flexibility. But sometimes I wonder…what if?
Denis and I have a friend that does event planning and she’s very good at it. She was doing it in NYC for a while and now lives in Oregon. She’s such a go-getter and her personality is perfectly suited to it. As much as she likes Oregon, I think she’d be a great fit for California event planning because she likes San Francisco (she lived there before moving to NYC).
Anyway, I gave up the idea of being an event planner and don’t really regret it. After all, it was through a temp job that I signed on to the internet and met Denis. If I had been off discussing plates and flatware with a customer, that wouldn’t have happened and I would be where I am today.
