Goin’ To The Drive-In Movie

I’m trying to talk Denis into taking the kids to a drive-in movie on Saturday night. It’ll already be a “big” week for them, what with the tickets to the local high school’s performance of “High School Musical” on Friday night (they have know idea and will LOVE IT). We’re going with two other families – one from my mommies group and one from our church life group.

But I think the idea of taking them to the drive-in on Saturday night is a good one. 1) It’s cheap – $8 for all of us to get in. And their concessions are dirt-cheap compared to regular movie theaters. I think we could get out of there for $20 and that INCLUDES the $8 to get in.

Denis worries about the logistics, but I’m positive it’ll work – we can put the front seats back as far as they’ll go and put the center console down and fashion some sort of bench that is level with the two seats. So in effect it’s one big row up front for all of us to watch the movie and gnosh on popcorn.

Denis is also worried that since the movie starts at dusk, that may mean it starts as late as 7:30 p.m., but as I told him – I don’t think I’m up for band duty this weekend, which means we can sleep in and go to the late service at church on Sunday morning. Besides, $20 for a family of four to see a brand new movie (“Horton Hears a Who”) even if they fall asleep halfway through?

WORTH IT.

You can sleep in late. I believe I have child care duty on Sunday. No worries about that though. I don’t mind going to the drive in (my first) but I have my reservations. Family outing. Whoo Hoo!!!!

I am SO jealous you guys have a drive-in near you! The only one up here closed last year when the owner died. NC used to be one of the top 10 drive-in states, but now 96% of them have closed down.

Such a shame. I love going to the drive-in.

Meghan’s last blog post..Don’t try this at home.

Don’t forget, you can also put the kids in PJs before they go, and then after they fall asleep in the car, you can take them straight to bed when you get home.

Is it a double feature multi screen drive-in like the one we have here up north?

Oh yeah, definitely do it! Some of my fondest memories are of going to the drive-in as a child. We’d all get in our PJ’s before hand, it was always a double feature back then. My parents took our own popcorn and kool aid. All the drive in theatres were gone in our area by the time my kids came along.

    This sounds soooo fun!
    Mmmm…popcorn.

The closest drive-in to us is being demolished for new buildings. Condos? That is prime location, near the highway. heh.
No more trying to watch the movie as I drive past at night.
