I really wanted to like this movie. Seriously – we own the soundtracks already (yes, both of them) and I love listening to the redone Beatles tunes. And I heard such amazing things about the movie. But. But. I just don’t know if I liked it or not.
Jim Sturgess (new fake boyfriend – hello!) plays Jude, a Brit who comes to America in the mid-1960s and falls in love with Lucy, the younger sister of his new friend Max. They all move to New York City and when Max gets drafted to fight in Vietnam, Lucy gets involved in Vietnam War protests while leaving with people with names like Sadie and Prudence. U2’s Bono makes an appearance as drug guru The Walrus, and Eddie Izzard makes an appearance as the other drug guru Mr. Kite.
And I can’t put my finger one why I didn’t like it. As I said, the music is amazing. The story certainly made sense given the songs they were using and the era in which the movie was set. The actors all did a fine job. The cinematography was inventive and only slightly distracting. And yet I still didn’t get up from my chair afterwards and say, “I liked it!”
Do I recommend it? I suppose so – after all, the music is worth that alone. But that’s really about it.

I haven’t seen the movie, yet, either. For the most part, I love both the soundtracks. I was hoping the movie would be pretty, with all that dancing. I want to see it for all the dancing, honestly. Sounds like I would be annoyed with making up characters who happen to have the right names, just so the songs can be used.
