1) CootieGirl only had ONE MORE DAY to go and she’d get her reward. Alas, last night upon arriving home from our small group’s Super Bowl party, she had messy panties. I explained that she would NOT get her reward and that we were starting a new seven days. I told her I was so proud of her for going six days, but that wasn’t enough to get her movie reward. She was okay with that and said she’d try again.
2) She enjoyed the play at ImaginOn on Saturday night. It was very well done and the puppetry was fantastic. The Big Friendly Giant spoke nonsense words a lot but the kids all seemed totally in tune with what he was saying. And any play that has an entire scene about passing gas (the giant called them whizzpoppers) is definitely going to play well with the kindergarten set.
3) GO GIANTS! Denis won $300!! Yet more for our Disney fund. That’s AWESOME.
4) Church went well yesterday – this weekend was the switch to two services. I was surprised by how EVEN the audiences were. The first service, which started 30 minutes earlier than our old service, had a LOT more people than I expected. It was so populated that it made me nervous about the SECOND service – but that had a good sized crowd as well. So it seems that the church leadership was spot on about the need to move to two services. It makes for an earlier morning (being at the theater by 7 a.m. to set up), but SO many people came out to help set up and tear down that it was a BREEZE.
5) The Super Bowl party was very low-key – about five couples, including one that isn’t actually part of our small group but would be interested in joining. They currently go to the Charlotte campus of the church but after they come back from a family vacation they plan on visiting our location in Rock Hill. Pretty soon our small group is going to have to be renamed the not-so-small group. We already have six couples and are about to add a seventh!! That’ll definitely be our limit. Especially since that’ll mean we’re also close to being outnumbered by kids – a total of 12 kids with two more on the way! And yes, Denis and I will still be the oldest ones in the group. *lol*
6) As for grocery shopping – would you believe this? I didn’t have to do ANY grocery shopping this weekend. WE DIDN’T NEED ANYTHING! I did hit up Rite Aid to get some free shampoo and some pullups for CootieBoy, but other than that- no shopping. The Grocery Game website claims it takes about 12 weeks to create a good stockpile, but in my case it took three weeks. There were a couple interesting deals on the lists yesterday, but they weren’t “needs,” so I didn’t go out. That’s AWESOME. Our shopping bill from January 13 – February 3 came to $221.91 – with the ORIGINAL price for all of that a whopping $424.68. I saved $202.77. Now, I don’t know what Denis’ budget was before I took over, but the fact that I got $424 worth of groceries for almost half the price? OUTSTANDING.
Too. COOL!!! /happy dance
I probably spend between $300 – $400/month on groceries. Probably closer to $400. You didn’t buy any of the big ticket items like shrimp/steak/fish, etc.
Denis – true enough – you are right I didn’t buy any meats. There’s not a huge need to do that right now since we have plenty in our freezer.
But the object of the grocery game is to create a cheap stockpile of non-necessities so that you ONLY have to shop for needs – which includes meats. The fact that for the next several months we don’t have to buy toothpaste, shampoos, cleaning products, soap, cereal, canned fruit, and a variety of other things means our WEEKLY shopping costs will go down. I expect that next month our monthly total will be even lower.
Okay. The bulk of our spending goes to the day to day stuff. Meats, cheese, milk, eggs, fish, etc. just so you know.
You are saying you spend $200 a month on meats, cheese, milk, eggs, fish, etc?
