As my regular readers know, we’re in the process of potty-training our 3 1/2 year old son. It has been hit or miss for the past few months – one step forward, two steps back. Tonight was a two-step-forward kind of night.
Denis was upstairs with CootieGirl drawing on the easel when he heard CootieBoy call up the stairs, “Poopy, Daddy!” Denis said he just kind of mentally deflated at the thought of cleaning him up. “Did you do it in your underpants?” Denis called down.
“No, in the POTTY!” CootieBoy replied.
Denis went downstairs and sure enough – CootieBoy had used the potty all by himself. No prompting, no coercion. He knew he needed to go, and so he deliberately went into the bathroom and did what needed to be done.
AMAZING, and thrilling.
The end is in sight, people. I foresee a vacation to Disney this May where “diaper bag” is not on the checklist of things to pack.
