I have been SWAMPED today – it is really out of hand. Mr. BIL has been on the go since we got here (we both arrived at 8:50 a.m. and by 9:01 a.m. my desk was covered in paper and folders. Even now he has something he wants to go out at 4:30 p.m. and I’m not sure it’s going to happen. He has been on the phone for 20 minutes now and he hasn’t told me what he wants me to do with the several dozen copy jobs he had me do for this 4:30 p.m. mailing.
In other news, I had an interesting conversation with our bike courier today. I was up in the breakroom putting out the leftovers from Mr. BIL’s lunch meeting, and I saw a magazine with Mike Huckabee on the cover. I said something like, “I think my sister like Huckabee,” and he said, “Really? I don’t trust anyone who says they are a born-again Christian.” I laughed and said, “Well, then I guess that means you don’t trust me either since I’m a born-again Christian.”
We then got into a conversation about what “born-again” means. He grew up in a heavily Catholic church and I got a sense of some hostility towards that church denomination as well. He also expressed disbelief in “burning bush conversions” (meaning people who claimed they became Christians because of some fantastical experience). He asked me how I became a Christian and I told him it was in high school, despite growing up in the church. I told him it was NOT a “burning bush” conversion but rather after careful and deliberate thought and decisionmaking. No “burning bush” moment here. Anyway, towards the end of the conversation he said, “Hey, I hope I didn’t offend you with my comment about not trusting born-agains,” to which I responded, “Not at all – as long as you aren’t offended that you are now on my prayer list.”
In other news, my co-worker has decided that this weekend is the weekend she is finally going to sign up as a seller at Etsy and sell her lovely pottery. She asked if she can call me if she gets mixed up. I told her absolutely, and that I’d be her first sale. I’ll be sure to post the link to her shop once she’s up and running. Her stuff is GREAT.
Windchimes! Woot! Send me the link to her shop, please…
Funny about your convo with the courier. Tell him he’s on my prayer list, too. 😉
You handled the situation beautifully ~ I love that you said you’d put him on your prayer list.
