Is It Bad to Covet a Sink?

When I went to NoNJ a couple weeks ago to visit Ace & Anthony I had a serious case of kitchen sink envy. They redid their kitchen last year and their kitchen sink is to die for. I think it’s about 3 feet deep (okay, maybe “only” 18 inches deep) and is nice and spacious. When I got home to my house a few days later my own kitchen sink looked very…rinkydink. Seriously – our sink is ridiculous in comparison.

So yes, I have kitchen sink envy. I won’t lie that I have gone in search of sinks in my past. Some of you may remember an entire post all about farm sinks that I did when we still thought we’d be building a house upon moving to South Carolina. Ooohhh…farm sinks…*wipes away drool* Actually, I think the call those Apron Front sinks now.

Another sink I envied was in a house we toured when we first began looking to buy a house in Queens. The kitchen had a lilac purple sink. PURPLE!!! It was so wonderfully retro that I wanted to ask if we could have the sink from whoever bought the house since I just KNEW they wouldn’t keep it. I’d love to have a custom color kitchen sink like that. Maybe bright Fiesta red (to go with my Aga stove which I’d also love to have if I win the lottery).

Anyway, Denis and I do plan on doing modest kitchen renovations in our future. Not drastic, since we have excellent appliances and cabinets already. But the countertop will be changed out, the island expanded by a tiny bit, and the sink replaced. My goal: a super-deep, super-wide, undermounted sink. *wipes away more drool*

amy, it was GREAT. It was a really pale purple and was expanded on one side to allow for washed dishes to drain back into the sink. LOVED IT.

It would be funny if you actually cooked and needed to use the sink. LOL

The other really cool thing about those farm house sinks is that they are usually a single bowl. I have a single bowl stainless steel one and love it. I can fully submerge a giant lasagna pan in the sink. who needs the “wash and rinse” sides of the sink nowadays?

I was going to say our sink is 11″ deep but looking at a ruler, that might be very incorrect. I will double check it this evening and see if i can’t get a name off it. Trust me when I tell you that our kitchen sink is going to my most missed item in the new house. We have decided that we are going to replace all of the appliances in our kitchen… don’t be surprised in a few months when I tell you we went ahead and replaced the granite as well so that we can have our old sink back. LOL

Anne and TEd – what an awesome backsplash! But I’d never be able to break up my pieces like that. But WOW!!!
