As great as my trip to NYC was? Denis is experiencing the opposite thus far.
My plane to Newark Airport left on time.
His plane to LaGuardia Airport was delayed several hours on the tarmac before heading back to the gate to deboard passengers. They are all told to come back in TWO HOURS. Denis returns in 1 hr 15 min to find the flight had just taken off. Without him. And several other passengers who were told to come back in two hours. No announcement, no intercom. It just took off. Which is CRAZY that they didn’t make an overhead announcement, and how on EARTH could they take off knowing they didn’t have ALL of their passengers who they had told to come back in TWO HOURS. Needless to say he is livid. Because his bag was on that plane (he opted not to do carry-on this time around since he didn’t want to have to schlep around a big bag on his shoulder).
He is now on stand-by for the 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. flights. If he doesn’t get on either of those, he has to take the 6 a.m. flight tomorrow morning because his first class starts at 9 a.m. in NYC.
Update at 12:15 a.m.: Well, Denis made it onto the “8 p.m.” flight via his standby ticket, but even after they finally boarded the plane (so far after 8 p.m. that it really could have been called the 10 p.m. flight), they sat on the tarmac. As of 11:40 p.m. they still hadn’t taken off, but were hoping to take off by midnight. MIDNIGHT. As in fifteen minutes ago. The crazy thing? If he had accepted the opportunity to take a 7 p.m. plane to Newark Airport, he could have arrived in Newark, taken a cab to LaGuardia to pick up his bag and checked into his hotel AND still made it out for a drink with a friend before his “8 p.m.” flight even thought about leaving Charlotte. POOR POOR GUY.
The airlines have us all snookered. There’s way more of what Denis experienced than what you experienced. It’s completely ridiculous.
He should write a letter to the President of the airline with his complaints. This has got to stop!
Let me know how that letter works out for Denis. LOL
He should have taken a flight to Newark… that is the first thing I would have asked for. Newark is just too darn close to NYC not to think of that as a second option. Poor Guy
Oh, I know the letter won’t get him anything. It’s the principle of the thing.
Ace, I was given the option to take a 7:30 flight to Newark, but then I would have had to get a cab ride to Laguardia then back to my Manhattan hotel. My luggage was on the plan I should have been on and they weren’t going to ship it to Newark for me. Too much of a headache for me. Plus, there’s no telling if that Newark flight would have left at 7:30 either. My guess, not.
