Visitor Stats

I’ve been looking at my Cootiehog visitor stats lately. My stats have never been accurate because so many other websites and blogs use two different addresses for this site – some with the www and one without. I tried doing a redirect so that all traffic, regardless of the www, will end up at the “same” site. However, that messes up my Feedburner link, so I removed it. So I don’t really know HOW many visitors I get a day.

One thing I noticed at my Sitemeter tracking is that my peak month in the past 12 was May 2007. I had over 6,000 unique visitors that month. What’s strange, though, is that while my average seems to be about 4,000 unique visitors per month, my readership took a major dip in August 2007, going down to 1,800. And it didn’t recover in September – going down to 1,700. That’s so strange, and I don’t know why that changed. Perhaps in tweaking the settings I am now reflecting the true number of monthly visitors (which would be depressing to think I only get 1,700 unique visitors a month – which is an average of 56 a day). But what would have caused the inflated numbers? My only consolation is that for October I’m already showing over 150 unique visitors, and it’s only October 2. So perhaps the 1,800 and 1,700 for Aug/Sept were the anomalies. We’ll see.
