*sigh* Matt Damon. He may get bumped up to my Top Five Fake Boyfriends. He’s just…awesome.
*SOME MINOR SPOILERS FOLLOW*
The last installment in the Bourne franchise (or is it???) is a rollicking ride – a constant deluge of chases and perfectly choreographed fight sequences. Somewhat light on plot, this was an unapologetic thrill. I had only a few minor quibbles, which were minor enough that it didn’t ruin the experience at all. I’m so happy I saw it on the Big Screen as opposed to waiting for Netflix.
Quibble #1: Fight scenes shot too close up. While they were obviously well-choreographed, I much preferred the fight scenes from the first Bourne installment, such as the one at his apartment. Lots of long shots made you really get a sense of what was going on. In this third movie, the fight scenes were so fast and frantic that at times it was difficult to tell just who was beating who. CAVEAT: I did love the fact that the fight scene with Desh had NO BACKGROUND SOUND other than their own grunts as they fought. I loved how they didn’t make any loud noises during their hand-to-hand – no doubt due to their training in black ops.
Quibble #2: Nicky Parsons’ veiled questions. “You really don’t remember, do you?” she asks him. I kept waiting for something major to be revealed – they dated, they were family, they were…something. And yet no great revelations. I thought that was one failing of the script – because it’s obvious SHE felt something for him, but we never find out why, and therefore it felt completely false. CAVEAT: I love Julia Stiles and she can do no wrong in my eyes. And her hair was GREAT! *lol*
Quibble #3: I know they left it open for a fourth installment so that we can maybe learn more about Bourne, but I still came out wishing they had told me just a little bit more about who Jason/David was. CAVEAT: YAY! to another installment possibly being made!
4 trips to the PORT AUTHORITY! out of five. It was lovely to see my old stomping ground even if it was just a quick flash or two (I told Denis it would be AWESOME if Bourne went up to Door 234, but alas, he didn’t).
