I’ve been on some local forums where people who are new to this area complain about the lack of things to do in the Charlotte metro area. I beg to differ!
Denis and I have seen several plays in the year we’ve been here. We went to a live reading by David Sedaris. We went to the Columbia symphony a few months back. We’ve visited both zoos nearby (Riverbanks in Columbia wins handsdown), we’ve taken taken the kids to Lazy5 Ranch, Hollywild, Discovery Place, and a few other local fun places specifically for kids. We’ve gone to Knights baseball games and may try to go to a Panthers football game in the fall.
I’m taking CootieBoy to see the Broadway show “The Lion King” this weekend. And today I bought tickets for “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” which is coming to Charlotte in April 2008. And I’m very tempted to buy tickets for “Wicked” when they go on sale to the public (it’ll be here for a week next summer).
And really, that’s just the tip of the iceburg – there is a LOT going on in both Charlotte and Columbia. It makes me sad when people move here expecting there to be tons of stuff “like New York.” Because that’s giving Charlotte the undeserved shaft. Charlotte may not have 23,000 restaurants or 50 plays to choose from, but it still has a lot to offer and the key is to take advantage of it and participate.
Word.
The key is not having kids so you can go out and take advantage of the things they have. LOL
