Much Needed Vacation

Tomorrow I go to North Carolina for my college homecoming. I wish I was going for a whole week – I need a vacation desperately. I so wish for a vacation that I’ve been surfing on the web looking at vacation packages that I can’t take (20 Days in Australia! 10 Days in Hawaii! 14 Days in Europe!). *sigh*

The good news is that I’ll be able to meet up with my friend Mary tomorrow night for dinner. And possibly with two other friends on Saturday. Combine that with dinner at Quincy’s Family Steakhouse, lunch on Game Day at QuikSnak (the main place I ate in college), and it should be a fun weekend.

There was recently a big scandal at my college after which the President resigned his position and left the school. Now, normally I wouldn’t care about that kind of thing – after all, I haven’t been a student there in 11 years, but since I was good friends with this man’s son it takes on a different slant. Lots of people are complaining about the man’s severance pay being given out despite the bad terms in which he resigned, but I say give it to him – he was President of the College for 16 years and did a lot of GREAT things for that college while he was there.

I remember when I was a freshman, a few of my friends drove out to President White’s house and forked his yard. We had bought $10 of plastic knives, forks and spoons and poked them all over his front yard. By the time we were done his yard looked like a sea of white rather than a lush golf-course green. We had a blast doing it (I want to say it was a Halloween event, but I honestly can’t remember). The next day we were disgusted to find out that when the White’s woke up they presumed the forking was done for a bunch of Marty’s, whose BIRTHDAY was that day. We were so upset because if we had known it was the kid’s birthday we would have waited a couple weeks to do it.

Suffice to say, two years later Marty shows up a freshman at the school and we ended up becoming good friends. I even like to say I had a hand in getting he and his wife together – they came with a group to DC on a college trip and I dragged them to a couple clubs with me where he was “forced” to dance with her several times to make her happy. A couple years later they were married. Ah, young club love.

*ahem* For anyone who wants to see a differing view on the scandal, visit my page for my rant on the subject. From minute one of said President’s arrival on campus I didn’t trust him. Yes, he did some good things for the college, but there were plenty of things I didn’t like in that list too. I am one who’s not happy with his severance deal.

I am looking forward to a few days away…visiting the alma mater…seeing old friends…quality time with my only sister. It’s going to be a good weekend.

Oh, and I was with you on the forking event. I think it was for Halloween.

And QuikSnak here we come! *woo hoo* JBC and sweet tea. *yum*

That’s so funny that you said you desperately need a vacation. I just told my co-worker Nicole the exact same thing. I guess we should both go away for a week. Do you have any days left to use this year? I have 8, minus whatever I need for Christmas.

But what to do with Cooper? And he doesn’t travel well.

you only gave 2 1/2 stars to One Hour Photo and 3 to Bourne Identity…hmmmmm….I beg to differ!

enjoy the trip down memory lane, have fun!

As you know, movies are a matter of personal taste. One-hour photo had major flaws in it (What was up with that dream scene?), while Bourne Identity succeeded in being an action/thriller.
