I will send a $10 Amazon gift certificate to anyone who can provide a reliable link to an online store that sells NEW VCRs for less than $40 a piece (preferably under $30). Not DVD/VCR combos. Not used or refurbed. It doesn’t even have to be stereo. Given the amount of money I’ve spent in my life in VHS tapes, and the fact that one of our VCRs is about to kick the can, I am looking to replace the VCR. But I don’t need a DVD player along with it. I just want a good, new, cheap VCR to play tapes. I won’t even be RECORDING on them unless it’s an extreme case. I’m a savvy internet searcher, but I cannot find anyone selling basic VCRs for cheap prices – and I know they USED to be available (like, even just six months ago I could find cheap VCR-only machines for $29.99).
So who will win the Amazon gift cert? The game is on and prize will be award when VCR has been successfully received in my grabby little hands (ordering doesn’t count since sometimes things are ordered but never delivered).
Not sure if this helps, but Overstock.com has them for $44.99. Not under $40, but it might be worth it if you can’t find one elsewhere! 🙂 Good luck…we’ve dumped most of our VHS tapes to save space and have gone the DVD route.
I can give you one for free.
I have one that I got my last year in college that has been sitting
in my grandmothers house for the last 3 years un used that you
could have for free!
Jen and Tracy – I’ll give you each a $20 Amazon gift cert if you are serious about giving the VCRs to me. That increase to $20 will be help defray the shipping you’d have to pay to get the VCRs to me. Feel free to email me about it if you are serious.
I’m totally serious. It’s in the basement, not being used and no need t pay me.
You want me to mail it now or bring it with me in Sept?
Just bring it with you in September. I think our current one can hold out that long. If not, we’ll move the one in our bedroom to the tv room and put yours in our bedroom in September.
OK. You might need to remind me to bring it.
You can have mine too! I don’t need the gift card as long as you
pay for mailing, I may still have the remote.
Or you could have upped your search to VCRs under $50 and kept the $10 gift certificate.
Denis – this way I’m paying $40 and getting TWO used VCRs from people I trust. I’d rather pay $40 in gift cards for two used VCRs from folks I trust than $50 for one new one that may or may not be good. That’s why I wanted to find a VCR for under $30 – then I wouldn’t mind so much paying the cheap price for a cheap VCR. But I’d rather NOT spend $50 PLUS shipping for some crap VCR. But I’ll pay $40 for two.
