Once again – if you don’t want to read medical junk and gross human wounds, then don’t click into this post. Move along.
Sickos. 🙂
Okay, so on the way home today my leg suddenly started tingling and stinging a bit. It got to a point where I kind of had to prop myself up so that my leg wouldn’t touch the seat at all (luckily, not as tough to do when the injured leg is the one required to drive a car). I got home and after greeting my family and went upstairs to check things out.
Sure enough, when I took off the double ace bandage wrap, I held up a mirror and found that the gauze was BARELY covering the open wound, and that the packing stuff had come out completely. I was also oozing blood everywhere. Gross.
Fortunately, we have a LOT of gauze in this house, so I had Denis provide medical assistance – we unwrapped several gauze pads and replaced the one I got at urgent care this morning, along with the repacking stuff. We then taped on new gauze that truly puts the wound in the CENTER of the gauze, so that even if it shifts a big it’ll still be covered. We then taped that in place and put the double ace bandage back on. It’s feeling much better now, but that could be the Vicodin talking (yes, I took one about 30 minutes ago – my only one of the day so far, thankyouverymuch).
The doctor this morning said not to worry if the packing came out, but it does worry me, the idea of having the wound potentially close up because there’s nothing there to keep it open and draining. Time will tell.
Oh, and the bruising? There’s a LOT of it. Way more than I thought I had.
Oiy! Any idea what caused it? Yes, don’t let that wound close up – I had that happen after oral surgery & you do not want them to have to re-open & repack that wound!!
Remembering my braces years – maybe you should take the Vicodin before your next dr’s appt! Ouch!
Hope you’re healing well!
After more inspection this morning when I changed the bandage again, there’s no way the hole will close up – it’s a gaping wound. The incision is at least 1/3 of an inch wide, and 1/2 an inch long. Even if it WANTED to close up, it couldn’t. So I’m not worried about that anymore.
So, you have to keep the wound OPEN!? Plus packed with stuff? Owie, owei.
