Movie: Children of Men

This movie was critically acclaimed when it came out last year, and for good reason. A taut thriller, “Children of Men” (based on a book by P.D. James) is set a mere 20 years in the future. And what a bleak future it is. England is the only country to remain intact after two decades of increasing disease, war and destruction. Immigration is now illegal (captured immigrants are put in cages on the street until they can be sent to prison), and all women are incapable of having children. For that reason, young people are revered and mourned when they die unexpectedly young (the youngest person in 2027 is about eightteen years old).

Enter Theo (Clive Owen). Theo has no hope but somehow gets wrangled into helping a former girlfriend (Julianne Moore) smuggle a young, pregnant, immigrant girl out of the country without being caught. And so our story begins.

Well written, amazing direction, haunting music and fabulous acting all make this one a GREAT movie to watch.
