Oh, I continue to adore Ricky Gervais. And the first season of “Extras” didn’t disappoint in the slightest bit.
“Extras” is about an out-of-work actor (Gervais) who struggles for legitimate acting work even as he regularly works as an extra on big films. Just as funny as “The Office” (but not nearly as cringe-inducing), this show is a riot and perfectly cast. Gervais used his cache to get big name actors to star in various episodes, from Kate Winslet to Ben Stiller to Samuel L. Jackson to Patrick Stewart, to name a few.
The second season of “Extras” is currently running on HBO, but since I don’t have HBO I’ll have to wait for it to come out on DVD to see it – but I hear it is just as funny as Season One. The great thing about the DVD set is that the viewer gets to see outtakes and deleted scenes, and as I’ve said many times before – there is no sound better than Ricky Gervais when he laughs.
