Okay, so after the jump is my fish painting from last night, and my “keep it simple stupid” revelation painting from this evening.
You can see that the fish is not that impressive. But as I said, CootieBoy loves it. But I had a heavy hand using the watercolors and so it doesn’t look nearly as delicate as watercolour paintings should look. This one will never see the light of day other than this picture, although I secretly hope that it becomes CootieBoy’s lifelong favorite picture and that he argues with his future wife over where it will be hung in their brand new house. 🙂 You’ll note the little jewels that are inset in the gold outline of the fish. Because the colors are so busy, I feel like they get lost.
I love this. This is the one I did tonight. It took me two hours from start to finish because I had to let the various layers dry. But I’m VERY pleased with how it turned out. I only used two jewels – a yellow one on the right side of the sun, and a light blue one on the upper left side of the cloud. LOVE THAT. Here’s an angle shot where you can really see the jewels:
Next up, in honor of my mother – a teacup painting. And I’m thinking of attempting a 3-D kind of thing – I’m going to attach an actual teabag to the painting. But it’ll have the same simplicity as the sun/cloud painting, which I’m calling “The Silver Lining”.
So you can get an idea of the size, “The Silver Lining” was painted on an 8×10 canvas board.
Everything looks fantastic. You will totally be able to make money on either one of these!
Is it wrong that I’m doing this strictly to make money, not because of any deep desire to paint and be creative?
Just don’t call yourself an artist and you should be okay.
D.
Now that you’re into Charles Rennie MacIntosh, here’s a related web site (mostly with stuff to buy):

I am SO impressed! They are really different. The fish is awesome and perfect for CootieBoy’s room. Can’t wait for the teacup ~ if it turns out to your satisfaction, maybe I can “commission” some to sell, at home and on the website. Get to work!!
Those “silver lining” ones would be cute in the kids bathroom…
Wait!! The FISH would be awesome in their bathroom!!
It cracks me up that people like the fish better!! I think the fish is TERRIBLE!!! Someone at my office prefers the fish painting as well.
Marmie – I think the teacup is going to be awesome. I did a bright red background, the cup in gold outline and the steam in silver outline with two jewels in the steam. Tonight I’ll be coloring in the teacup and saucer, and adding the teabag if I think it would look good.
I would think CootieBoy would love the vivid colors of the fish! I’m loving the simplicity of the other picture. Nice work, Jaynee.
I’ll have to think of some more color combinations for you to do with the teacups and saucers ~ let’s do some teapots, too!
All of a sudden my mom is my art director? *lol*
I like the silver lining one….great job!
The fish one is my favorite, too…it’s bold and fun and I noticed the sparklies right away. 🙂
It isn’t my intention to be your art director. What I have learned about increasing sales is that very often a women will buy a collection of items in the same theme or colors. For instance, if I were buying a gift for someone who loves purple, I would look for things with that color theme: a teapot with wisteria, irises or violets, teacup and saucer, stationary, scone mix bag that has purple, and even a flavor of tea that is complimentary, e.g. Lavendar Earl Grey. So a painting that has a neutral background with a teacup or teapot with some purple in it would stand out as the perfect accompaniment to that collection of gifts. Or, one of your paintings to go along with a cup and saucer or teapot would be a great gift dup. So, my suggestion is to look around for some designs of teacups and teapots and do your own version of them ~ make them your own. Another for instance ~ the fish you did has the colors of CootieBoy’s room but isn’t a Nemo knockoff ~ it compliments but isn’t a coordiate of the theme. I rambled on…sorry.
Spell check ~ coordinate, nor coordiate.
Oiy. Coordinate, NOT coordiate.
Mom – I see your point, and I HAD thought about doing an Andy Warhol tribute and do the same painting four times, but with different color schemes. But wait until you see the first tea painting to decide if it’s something you’d want to show off. Hey – maybe for your “tea showroom” that you do every year I can do a color coordinated painting for that particular set up. Hmmmm…
Great job – I’m impressed with your puff paint technique! I make
a terrible blobby mess with that stuff!
I like the multi-media effect of adding the sparkles, too!
Well, I’ve been out of town and missed all this! Very nice, I really like these!
Thanks, Bev!
