Well, I opted to go ahead and start painting the first base layer of red on the fireplace wall last night. I did some taping up and then painted about 2/3rds of the wall before stopping because I knew I didn’t have enough painting tape to tape up everything. Today I’ll see if Denis can get more painter’s tape so that I can finish the first coat tomorrow night (can’t do it tonight because I have band practice). Then Friday I’ll do the second coat with an actual roller brush (last night I used the regular paintbrush since I knew it was basically just a primer coat at this point). With any luck on Saturday I’ll do a final coat and will be done, but if not, then I’ll do a fourth coat on Sunday and that should finish the job.
It looks VERY pinky red right now (of course), but I can already see that it’s totally going to transform the look of the fireplace mantel, which before just kind of blended in to the wall.
Looks like the kids got into the paint again. Don’t worry. We can clean that up with a Mr. Clean sponge.
