A Decent Day

Heard from Mr. BIL around 2 p.m. this afternoon, basically saying, “Welcome to the South! We shut down at the word ‘snow’!” He thanked me for my email and said it was no big deal and that he’d see me next week. He just asked that I do one very specific thing upon arriving at work tomorrow and then leave him a voicemail to let it know it’s done so he can enjoy his ski trip.

So once I was off the hook, I went out shopping. I hit Bed, Bath & Beyond (can I tell you the roads were not only clear, but EMPTY). Among other things, I bought an plug adapter for our trip to Scotland, and a sample window curtain for the tv room. It looks GREAT (a nice match) and after a bit of shifting of some decorative items, I think it’s gonna be great in there! Denis is going to go back tomorrow and pick up five more curtains, and then I’ll go and buy paint over the weekend and *hopefully* paint the fireplace wall this weekend as well. I’ve decided to leave the fireplace mantel pretty bare – just the two lamps, and the one picture on the wall above. Then the last bit will be reupholstering the recliner, which is blue and the ONLY blue thing in the room. It does not “go” at all. But the chair is high quality, so we’re going to have it reupholstered sometime in the spring or summer.

The kids have enjoyed making a mess of the house today (at one point I think we had about 300 flash cards strewn all over the family room floor), but also have watched a couple movies (“Over the Hedge” (of course) and “Chicken Little”). All that’s left is possibly some sort of a cookie baking experience with CootieGirl and me, after dinner. It feels like a Saturday so it’ll be weird to go back to work tomorrow.

But the bonus is that with Mr. BIL out, my workload will be next to nothing and I’ll be able to get ALL of my filing done and then volunteer to help out with dictation or document edits for the other secretaries.
