Already Freaking Out

The people in my office are already freaking out about the impending inclement weather that is supposed to hit our area of the Carolinas. Emails have gone out from HR with the number to call in case the firm opts to adjust it’s hours. Everyone is already complaining about how bad traffic will be in the morning because no one knows how to drive in snow/ice.

And yet the sun is shining today.

LOL – sounds like my old office when I lived in VA! Here in NoNJ, no one bats an eye when we have a snowy forecast. (I still freak out a ‘lil, though.)

gail – no, they keep telling me “but down here it’s ICE, so it’s different than snow.” And I’m all,. “Uh, we had ice in NoNJ,” and they’re all “But up there people know how to drive on it – down here they have no idea.”

I’ve also been told that the roads could very well be empty with people staying home. I’ve told Mr. BIL that I’ll be in (especially since he only lives 2 minutes from the office and can WALK here). And with him going out of town from Friday – Wednesday, it’s even more important that I be here tomorrow, even if I get here late.

Welcome to the south, Jaynee! I’m a native Virginian (east coast) and ’tis true, one snowflake, one piece of sleet and it’s freakout city. But it’s also true that the state doesn’t invest the money into snow/ice control equipment and crews since it’s really not worthwhile for the rare freezing events. Oh well, good luck for the storm.

I think Bev hit the nail on the head…without snow plows and salt trucks for ice control, the roads really are more dangerous, plus the whole “people don’t know how to drive on it” problem. Good luck!

Update (as of 7 a.m., Thursday morning) Jaynee’s office is open at normal time but the kids’ day care is closed. Oh, well. We have a dusting of snow on the grass not the roads.
