I finally got through the first dvd of a four-dvd set of this old BBC miniseries from the 1970s. And I will not be going through DVD #2 and #3, but will instead skip directly to #4, which has the BBC America movie of “The Other Boleyn Girl” which is based on a book I read a couple years ago and loved.
This miniseries is SO completely dated as to be laughable. I mean, the BBC miniseries “I, Claudius” was also dated and done in that same teleplay format, but this one just seemed very amateurish. Also, while watching it last night I got the feeling that I watched this as a kid. I’ll need Mom to verify if she remembers me watching it with her. But at some point when Henry was yelling at Anne Boleyn it just all seemed eerily familiar – and not just because I’m fascinated with all things Tudor. No – I think I’ve seen this miniseries before, but certainly not anytime in the past 25+ years.
