Know Shots, Know Cry

So yesterday CootieBoy had his latest doctor appointment and received a whopping FIVE shots to get him up to date on his immunizations. Two in one leg, three in the other. Poor little guy. Last night he went to sleep pretty easily for Denis, but at midnight when Denis and I retired, he woke up and asked to sleep with us. Since I knew he was feeling poorly because of the shots, I let him crawl into bed (although admittedly this whole “let him sleep in the room with us in his own bed and he WON’T crawl into bed with us” hasn’t really worked – it just gives him a shorter path to our bed when he wakes in the middle of the night).

Unfortunately, for the rest of the night I got no sleep because CootieBoy insisted that I sleep on my back so he could rest his head in the crook of my arm. Not the most comfortable way for me to attempt sleep, since I normally sleep on my side or stomach. I am NOT a back sleeper in any way, shape or form. Everytime I tried to make CootieBoy comfortable in order to flip on my side and catch some z’s, he’d begin fussing. So I’d lay on my back again so that he could be more comfortable.

In a phrase: It sucked.

This morning he was very fussy (no kidding) and it’s obvious that his legs are both very tender. When I changed his diaper last night and this morning he cried when the diaper scraped against the tenderspot on his left leg. When I put him in his pants for the day he screamed when the pants rubbed against his left leg. With large tears in his eyes he looked at me and wailed, “Leg hurt, mommy” while pointing to his left leg. And his right leg isn’t doing much better – he has bruising where he got the shots in that leg.

On top of that, he also has a mild fever from the immunizations, and refused to take medicine this morning to reduce the fever. Denis kept him home from daycare today. Hopefully CootieBoy will spend the day sleeping and chilling out on the sofa so that Denis doesn’t go crazy.
